Please research it thoroughly before you make the decision to get the birth control shot. Everyone will have different side effects while on the shot, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. 

I decided to get it 2 years ago and I didn’t know too much about it which was my first mistake. The nurse only told me about the spotting. I didn’t notice too much of a change while on it for the first couple of months. I actually hadn’t noticed too much of a change until about a year or so after I got the shot. Besides not having a period at all anymore it changed my mood completely. Now I’ve always been a moody person, but I started feeling like it was amplified by a thousand. I felt angry all the time and I lashed out at people for absolutely no reason. If I wasn’t completely pissed off I was depressed. I cried for no reason and didn’t even want to get out of bed in the morning. I lost interest and motivation in everything. I was 100lbs before the shot and towards the end I got to 125 without changing my diet at all. Instead of switching birth control I continued getting the shot for months after I noticed a change which was my second mistake. I guess I thought it was a temporary thing that would eventually get better. It definitely didn’t get better, only worse. I felt like a different person towards the end of it. Everything upset me and I couldn’t even stand to talk to anyone. I felt like I had to make myself be normal if that makes any sense. My new self had to think about how my old self would act and I had to try to get back to that. I knew it was the shot because nothing had changed since I started taking it. The depression started getting too much for me and I finally decided to switch. I haven’t been off it for too long, but I can feel some kind of normalcy coming back. It might not be a while before the side effects completely wear off, but I’m glad I’m not putting that stuff in my body anymore. Fun fact btw I experienced the worst cramps of my life when I first got my period back. I was in horrible pain I couldn’t even move and it was like that for days. After actually reading up on the shot I came across many women who have had the same problems. Some women still experienced side effects for years and some women didn’t get their periods back. 

If you’re considering getting the depo shot make sure you read up on it and see if you’re comfortable with the side effects. If you notice any changes in your mood you should talk to your doctor about it. Don’t think it will just pass and its a temporary thing because it might get worse and its just not worth it.
